FSSAI Registration:  FSSAI is an abbreviation for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an organization responsible for governing the food industry in India. It is an independent body established by the government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The FSSAI began by creating the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act), a combined statute governing food safety and regulation in India. It ensures that food products are monitored for quality, preventing contamination and the sale of substandard products. It is responsible for registering and licensing food business operators (FBOs) in India and for establishing the rules and regulations governing food business operations in the country.

FSSAI Registration

Every food business operator who manufactures, processes, stores, distributes, or sells food products is required to obtain an FSSAI Registration or License.

FSSAI Registration is clearly different from FSSAI License in terms that an FBO should obtain the necessary registration or license based on the size and nature of the business.

It is a 14-digit registration or license number that appears on the back of all food packaging. The 14-digit registration number contains information about the state of assembly and the producer’s permit. This registration procedure is aimed at increasing the FBO’s accountability for food product quality. The procedures and requirements for licensing and registration are governed by the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
